Thanks to science we can turn trash into sleek, smooth leggings
ECONYL® Regenerated Nylon
ECONYL® regenerated nylon is made entirely from pre-and-post-consumer waste that is collected all around the world. The waste is composed mostly of old fishing nets, carpets and plastic remnants. Rather than polluting the earth, these plastics are recycled and transformed into nylon fiber. This is a regenerative process where the plastic is washed, flaked, heated and spun into a fiber. What's incredible is no loss of quality occurs. The result is strong and identical to conventional nylon while being environmentally superior, a legitimate win-win. The end product is also 100% recyclable, creating a closed loop of regeneration so no new nylon is created or ever needed. This amazing zero waste, ECONYL® regenerated nylon yarn is woven into fabric by a company in Italy.
Botanic & Breathable
We use Lenzing certified TENCEL™, a Modal fiber produced from the wood pulp of Eucalyptus trees. Wood and pulp used by the Lenzing Group comes from sustainably managed local plantations on the neighboring island of Java. The fibers are harvested largely by the process of thinning, a technique used in sustainable forestry making use of timber that is unsuitable for high-grade products like furniture. TENCEL™ is produced using a closed-loop solvent-spinning process that recycles water and reuses the solvent at a recovery rate of more than 99%.
TENCEL™ Modal fibers are certified with the internationally recognized EU Ecolabel, an environmental quality label only awarded to products and services which have a significantly lower environmental impact throughout their entire lifecycle. Products awarded the label are independently assessed for compliance with strict ecological and performance criteria. Derived from nature, all TENCEL™ standard fiber types have also been certified by the Belgian certification company Vinçotte as biodegradable and compostable under industrial, home, soil and marine conditions, thus they can fully revert back to nature. This amazing fabric is more absorbent than cotton, softer than silk, and cooler than linen.
Why do we love thee? Let me count the ways.
This unique, botanically based fabric is blended to be smooth, slimming and supportive, it's naturally UV protectant, hypoallergenic, and silky-soft to the touch. It's highly sweat absorbent, breathable & moisture wicking so it keeps you dry, and it's antibacterial properties help to keep you odor free and smelling fresh.
Bamboo trees regenerate in 55 days and rarely need to be replanted as they miraculously sprout on their own, yielding 10 times the quantity of cotton per acre. They are biodegradable and naturally resistant to insects or infecting pathogens (read: pesticide-free farming :)!). Bamboo requires little irrigation, only 1/3 of the water that it takes to grow cotton, making it the more environmentally friendly choice.
Our bamboo fabrics are made in Indonesia with bamboo grown in China.
Some of our fabrics contain a small percentage of spandex or Lycra (brand name spandex - think Coke vs cola) in addition to the fibers mentioned above. Spandex gives clothing the stretchy quality that we all love and is vital to the wearability and longevity of our designs. Unfortunately, spandex isn't organic, renewable or recycled. We recognize this isn't perfect and are always looking for more sustainable options. At the very least, we counteract the negative environmental impact of this material by purchasing carbon offsets. We don't think this is a solution and are consciously striving to do better. So, stay tuned...we're on it.
